Generosity? Part III

As I continue my gift search, I've come across:

GoSmile's mini toothpastes, which come in adorable tubes, with interesting flavors like Ginger Cookie and Peppermint Candy. They're a cute and practical gift, perfect as a stocking stuffer. $9 for two, at Sephora.

Bliss' Lemon and Sage Scrubs Deluxe kit is a great item for any bath and beauty junkie. I know, from personal experience, that scrubs from Bliss are some of the best on the market, and the lemon sage scent is refreshing and pretty. This kit includes body scrub, body butter, hand cream, and an exfoliating scrub brush. It's $48 at Sephora.

Fresh has wonderful, light, and unique perfumes and fragrances that are perfect for anyone on your list. Their Lemon Sugar perfume is perfect for a younger girly girl, while Cannabis Santal is a rich, captivating, yet still light fragrance that can be worn by both your best friend or your boyfriend. Get them at Sephora.

Demeter's fragrances are also great, and quite cheap. They have every scent imaginable, from Thunderstorm (yes, it really smells like a thunderstorm!) to Dirt (which kind of smells like dirt). Their "Pick-Me-Up Sprays" are around $18 and available at Demeter Fragrance.com.

Moving away from beauty products, Candela's knit beret is something that is both luxurious and useful. Although it seems a little pricey, it's well made, classic, and will probably be used for years to come. $105 at Girlshop.

Another good stocking stuffer is APC's graphic pins. They provide classic APC charm, but for much less money. Due to their website being flash, I can't post pictures, but rest assured, they'll satisfy your stylish hipster urges. $8 for a set of 5, at APC.

Generosity? Part II

I decided my previous post on holiday gifts could be much more complete, so here's a second post dedicated to gift-giving.

For your friend with classic, simple style, Repetto's ballet flats are a great option. They're well-made, adorable, and reasonably-priced at $155 a pair. Utterly versatile, these flats are sure to be used quite a bit. A slightly edgier option is Repetto's silver and black ankle-tie shoe. These pairs and more are available at Shop Zoe.

Your goth-chic friend will love Daryl K's hieroglyphic blouse. It's unique, flattering, cryptic, and on sale for $115. Get it at La Garçonne.
.

The stylish man in your life, or at least the one who'll wear anything you give him, will love Big Bang's money clip. It's from their new men's line, and it's fashionable and different from those plain steel or silver money clips, while remaining masculine enough for him to actually use. It's $160, and you can get it at Shop Jake.

Drama queens will surely appreciate Mara Hoffman's red and black print silk kimono dress. It's sexy, intense, and stylish without being too much. It's on sale for $155 at Shop Jake.

You can get those glitter-crazy, adventurous girls Fighting Eel's T shirt dress. It's glam, of-the-moment, and totally eye-catching. It's $72 at Girlshop.

That's all for now, but look out for part III soon.

Generosity?

Now that I've posted what I want for Christmas, it's time to share my thoughts of gifts for others.

For my friends, I'm going with a "cozy" theme, which is pretty general, but easy to do, since I'm expected to give presents to at least 18 different friends. This means adorable hand-knit beanies from Peru, slippers (maybe these from Urban Outfitters, or something similar), convertible gloves, and cool scarves (I might stencil something on those plain jersey scarves you can get at American Apparel, or possibly vintage silk ones).

My dad will get some interesting spices and sauces from Williams Sonoma or Bristol Farm, as well as some CDs featuring , The Concretes, and Whirlwind Heat.

My brothers, they're boring and they'll get socks or gift certificates.

I haven't decided what I'll give my mom, but it'll probably be some form of clothing or accessories.

Other cool gift options that Eliza reccomends:
Personalized M&Ms.

iTunes 365 Calendar.

iPod DJ Station.

Anything from Stacey Lapidus

Croc-embossed high tops

Subscriptions to The Week, V
, or W.

I'm dreaming of a luxe Christmas...

As the holiday season comes upon us, people start to make their Christmas/Hannukah/etc. wishlists, in hopes that Santa or Hannukah Harry or whoever will bring them their materialistic (or maybe not so materialistic) wishes. Thus, here's mine:
A digital camera, nothing too fancy, but something that is fast, compact, and easy to use.

These Nine West flats, which are basically knockoffs of the famous Lanvin ones. $40 at ninewest.com

This Free People dress, $108, at freepeople.com

These microsuede platform heels, $48, at urbanoutfitters.com

Super-M socks, $12, at sock-dreams.com (to work the Prada SS06 look)

Cotton/spandex yoga pants, $35, at American Apparel (for purely practical uses)

Black ballet tights

Thick cardstock paper and new stencil brushes, along with American Apparel's unisex fine jersey long sleeve shirt, to copy Burfitt's dreamcatcher tee (here)

3.1 Philip Lim's grey denim dress, with pleating and a bow on the neck, which I can't find a picture of online, but it's at Nordstrom.

More Philip Lim -- this crochet and silk top, at Net-a-Porter

As well as super-soft cashmere sweaters in neutral colors.

American Apparel

Whether you love or hate their ethics/branding/marketing/reputation, one must admit, this is a pretty hot dress. It's very Alaia, just a whole lot cheaper, and not as inspired or well made. Or, you know, original. Still, I love.

Also in the Alaia vein, skirts of the pencil and mini varieties.

I think I need this dress, too.

And if you're going to wear leggings, you'd better make it the lamé or tricot ones.

T-t-t-thanksgiving

It's that time of year (for us Americans, at least) where we all migrate to a certain family member's house, and stuff ourselves full of pumpkin pie, cranberry sauce, and that sort of thing. For me, it also includes picking a great outfit for Thanksgiving dinner, because if I have any excuse I have to dress up, I will. But, for purposes of mobility (since I'm flying across the country), I need an outfit that is simple (hence no skirts that require petticoats underneath, or massive Pierre Hardy wedges, and won't give good old Grandpa a heart attack (thus nothing extremely bright or see through).
Ideally, I'd love to wear something from Thakoon's fall collection (particularly this, sans footless tights, this, or this) with some Pierre Hardy flats, but instead, here are my choices out of my closet, which are a lot less over the top.

I could go with the classic look -- Marc by Marc Jacobs (which shall henceforth be referred to as MxMJ) shirtdress, with vintage alligator pumps. I might add some sort of headband and faux fur cape into this as well.

There's also the princess -- Vena Cava dress overtop a white tanktop, with MxMJ shoes, and probably some hair ornamentation.

Or, I could go with something a little more casual -- Rozae Nichols top, MxMJ shorts and shoes.

In conclusion, happy Thanksgiving, and may all your Philip Lim dreams come true!

Get out your black nailpolish and Cure CDs...

...Because goth is back. This is a key look for fall, playing into fashion's tough streak. Of course, you need lots of black, some truly gothic motifs that harken back to the middle ages, and some shine. Skulls are passé, but weapons, teeth, and talons are macabre touches that still seem at least somewhat fresh. In order to avoid the Morticia Addams look, keep the silhouette sharp and crisp, and don't be afraid to show some skin. If you do it right, it's clean, modern, and hints just a little bloodlust.

Hello there!

So I decided that somehow, there weren't enough fashion blogs out there, and I simply had to create one. Expect rants, musings, and arbitrary postings about style, music, movies, people, maybe even some literature and art, if I'm in that sort of mood. I'm not a fashion insider, just an eccentric teenage girl living in Los Angeles who is very interested in fashion. Whether it's the concepts behind a simple garment, the workmanship put into a coat, the statement a photo editorial makes, the texture of a fabric, or the way a dress moves, it's fascinating, glamorous, and poetic. In conclusion, enjoy and read on!
